DESCRIPTION OF IMPACT ACTIVITY: Briefly: Planting and distribution of red spruce trees at Otisco Shores conservation area. May 10, 10-noo
Detail: Onondaga County Soil and Water arranged for OLPA to receive 100 Red Spruce seedlings for our members! We will be planting the trees at the Otisco Shores Conservation Area and taking trees for planting at home! Red Spruce are the recommended species to substitute for hemlocks, which may be infested with the invasive Adelgid beetle on Otisco, and ultimately will die. Spruce resist the adelgid and deer damage! There will be a demo of the correct way to plant the trees along with a handout. For those who are interested in helping to plant a tree, we will have shovels there but if you have a shovel to work with that would be appreciated. Otisco Shores Conservation Area is located on the south east shore of Otisco Lake: 1575 Otisco Valley Road. It is a public area open for walking and hiking. Park along the roadway. Open to everyone. Members will be first in line for a free tree giveaway!
